Enjoy Your Right to Food

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

In 1950, the U.N. invited all member States and interested organizations across the globe to observe 10th of December every year as World Human Rights Day. Last year, 2008, marked the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Though the situation in India has improved a lot since independence in 1947, a lot remains to be done. In its annual report on “The State of Human Rights in India 2008″ the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has pointed out, debated, and discussed how India has fared in some aspects of the civil and political rights such as right to fair trial without delay, rights concerning torture, bonded labor, and freedom of religion; economic, social and cultural rights like land rights, right to food, and rights against discrimination mostly the caste based discrimination, the internal security of the country, and equal status to women. The report points out that the apathy and incompetence of the law enforcement agencies at district, state, and national levels has been one of the main reasons for some of these violations still being prevalent in India.

At this situation of chaos, let’s celebrate the World Human Rights Day with BookMyKhana.com to secure at least our right to food. Order online excellent dishes from your favourite restaurants & enjoy the day to enjoy your rights.

Prevent Pollution, Prevent Diseases

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Pollution prevention is a simple, even obvious, idea, yet it entails a huge shift in thinking. It requires all of us like environmentalists, industry, society as a whole to stop thinking about harmful wastes as a normal part of the manufacturing process. Instead, we must see them as a sign of inefficiency and seek ways to eradicate them from all stages of production. “This new way of thinking is even reflected in the evolving vocabulary of pollution prevention. We now divide up all that emerges from the manufacturing process into two categories: `product‘ and `byproduct’ - the latter being everything and anything not the actual product. By replacing the pejorative word `waste’ with `byproduct,’ we are conveying a broader meaning of the manufacturing process that is consistent with the idea of efficient manufacturing.” In other words, every product of manufacturing should be reclaimed and reused, not simply discarded.

To carry forward the awareness & message, various initiatives are taken from time to time and this is why World Pollution Prevention Day is observed on every December 2. Increasing pollution is having its adverse effects upon everything including our food too. And this is the time to be really aware, which food to take & which not.
