Give a Child Its Right

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

14th November is Children’s Day & just six days later November 20, is observed as Child Rights Day, the whole world celebrates the day on which the United Nations adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Rights of children are grouped broadly into four: 1. The right to survival: to live, to health care, to good nutritious food, to a legally registered name and a nationality. 2. Right to Development: to quality education, to leisure, to recreation, to proper care, a home and a family 3. Right to protection: from harm, neglect, abuse and exploitation 4.Right to participation: to freedom of expression and thought.

However, the reality is far removed from the idealistic situation described above. Despite laws, Rights etc, the harsh fact remains that a majority of children in India and elsewhere too, do not have access to basic needs like education, shelter, and nutrition etc.

Being a responsible citizen, we can provide children the first right at least, the right to health care & good nutritious food. All we need to do is simply log on to BookMyKhana.com, check out restaurants, check their online menus, select items & order online. The food will be served fresh & hot at your desired address and after that distribute it among the poor & hungry kids n & around you. Do it now, because it’s now or never.

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Guru Nanak Jayanti is a special occasion for Sikhs all across India & globe. Prabhat Pheris or the early morning religious procession goes around the localities singing hymns, starting three weeks before the festival. Devotees offer sweets and tea when the procession passes by their houses. The Shri Guru Granth Sahib is read continuously. Local bands play religious music and marching school children form a special part of the procession. Various school students, eminent citizens, Gatka Parties display mock-battle with the traditional weapons, and devotees singing hymns from Shri Guru Granth Sahib in chorus. The passage of the ‘nagarkirtan’ is decorated with flags, flowers; religious posters decorated gates and banners depicting various aspects of Sikhism. On the Gurupurab day, the Divan begins in at about 4 or 5 a.m. with the singing of Asa-di-var and hymns from Shri Guru Granth Sahib. Sometimes it is followed by katha (discourse), religious and Sikh Historical lectures and recitation of poems in praise of the Guru. Kirtan-Darbars and Amrit Sanchar ceremonies are also held in the Gurdwara hall. Men, women, and children, participate in this ‘karseva‘ as a service to the community, cook food and distribute it in the ‘Guru ka Langar‘, with the traditional ‘Karah Prasad‘. But amidst all these activities there is one thing that is missing, the free distribution of sweets to everyone irrespective of religious faith.

Double Fun, Double Celebration

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

October 2, is a special day for all Indians staying in India & across the globe. It is the day when our Father of The Nation was born. Good Guess, its Gandhi Jayanti, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. But apart from that this day also has a global significance. Keep smiling folks! This day, we also celebrate World Smile Day.
Mahatma Gandhi preached the principles of peace & non-violence. And if we follow his teachings even today, we can resolve many current conflicts, avoid violence, find peaceful solutions and can make our world a better place to live.
The main motto of World Smile Day, quite surprisingly relates to the last statement of making the world a better place. Today’s World is full of fury, uncertainty, deception & disappointment. In this scenario smiling yourself & making others smile, can make a soothing effect. To make others smile one can do a lot of things like SMS, send cards or e cards, watch a hilarious comedy movie & many more. And if you wish to order favourite dishes of you and your near & dear ones, which can bring a smile at all of your faces, then log in to BookMyKhana.com & simply order. You can also send sweet gifts & food gifts to surprise them & make them smile.
So, enrich your life with the principles of Bapu & keep smiling always. BookMyKhana.com wishes you a Happy Gandhi Jayanti & World Smile Day.
