The Longest Total Solar Eclipse of the 21st Century

But this grand cosmic spectacle stands itself apart from the normal solar eclipses, this is even better - a total solar eclipse. And most importantly the next one is coming after 78 long years, probably when you & I would be watching it from the heaven above. But that’s not all; the total solar eclipse will be of longest duration during this century. In Bihar it will be nearly four minutes & in Iwo-Jima, near the Guam Islands in the Far East, its visibility will be as long as six minutes.
It will be the third total solar eclipse to be visible in India in the past 15 years. The last two eclipses happened in 1999 and 1995. The route the eclipse will take is from Surat, Indore and other cities in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, parts of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sikkim and Assam. The sun would be covered up to 95 percent in Mumbai and 80 percent in New Delhi. It will be also visible in neighbouring countries like Bhutan, China and the Tibet region, then in Japan and the Guam Islands.
